7th October

7th October

Today we had creative thinking, writing and living in the morning. We had to work with partners and in little groups. The exercices included many things like story telling and talking about languages. Then we had lunch.
We had some spare time after lunch and we went to a cafe. When we came back to school we had creative ceramic lesson. We painted about Finnish and German things.
In the evening we went to bowling. We played in mixed groups and everybody had fun. :)

German buildings

Many German buildings are old-stylish. In Finland, the buildings looks like boxes, but in here they look very beautiful and cute! Some of them have nice bright colour. Of course there are lots of modern houses too.In Bautzen there is also Old town, which has survived pretty well to nowadays. Some of them has been rebuilt because of fires etc. Maybe that’s why some roads are little bit narrower (in the central of Bautzen) than in Finland.

Day one and Berlin top 10

Our day in Berlin started with a bus ride from airport to the Hotel. We didn't get our room until 15 o'clock but we spent our time in downtown and with a nice tourbus ride. We also spent almost all of our money... hahah. And now, our top 10 in Berlin are...

1. Shopping (of course)

2. Tourbus ride

3. Really nice, sunny weather

4. Airport life in Finland and Berlin

5. Cheap food at McDonald's

6. Sugar and chockolate apples!!! Yummy

7. Nice group atmosphere

8. Cute dogs

 9. TV tower and great views

10. And the last but not least, nice hotel and hotel beds.

And the next stop, Bautzen.

Day 2 in Berlin

October 3rd

Second day in Berlin started 8.15 in the morning with really good breakfast at our hotel. After we ate we started getting ready to go to see some landmarks & other known places & things in the city. In our opinion the architecture in that place is beautiful even though the big picture of it was a bit messy with all the construction sites. We think it was really nice to see attractions like the great wall of Berlin, Holocaust Denkmal, Checkpoint Charlie and so on but all the walking made our feet hurt. Anyway that was just a little side effect.
When we came back to our hotel after sightseeing we had few minutes to get ready so some of us changed clothes and then we headed to a restaurant called 12 apostles. The restaurant was a bit unusual but the food was good(& we didn't have to pay for it so that was nice too) We really had fun there with this great group of people :)

Family day

Hello, almost every student probably had a different family day on sunday, but I'm just writing about mine. In the morning we ate breakfast together with the family and then we drove two hours to go see some coal mine bridge thing which was huge and very interesting experience but the guide guy only spoke german so I didn't have any idea of what was happening there but it was still nice. After that we drove to some racing event on lausitzring which is a race track where old pro racers raced their old motorcycles and it was very loud and it felt like my ears were bleeding. Then we drove back to home and had a nice family dinner.

The bridge was so large it couldn't fit in one photo but here is a part of it.

Food and the Family Day

The Bastei

Today I visited the Bastei which is a rock formation almost 200 meters above the Elbe river. The rocks of Bastei were formed by water erosion over million years ago. The Bastei is in the Elbsandsteingebirge (Elbe Sandstone Mountains) . Unfortunately Christin could´t come with us because she was sick. So I went there with Tom Karl, Pyry, Anne-Kathrin, Saana and German families. The view was really impressive and something that I will remember. We hiked there and climbed to the top. We also went with a boat in a part of the Elbe.

The food in Germany

In Berlin the most traditional food is Currywurst. My host family is vegetarian and they like Indian vegetables and mediterrean. I´ve noticed that they use a lot of herbs and the food is fresh and healthy. Typical food for Germany is Schnitzel with fries. They like to eat snacks quite often. The German food is often a little bit unhealthy but in my host family they eat healthily. Apfelstrudel (Apple Strudel) Is a famous dessert. It has warm apples inside of dough.  It´s often served with vanilla ice-cream.

Our arrival in Bautzen and meeting our host families.

The teachers were taken to see the annual pottery market (Töpfermarkt) in the village of Neukirch, Oberlausitz. Attached you'll find a video of the world championship final of Tippelrennen/ Mug race, where rival relay teams of potters compete on which team is carrying the most mugs and pots on a wooden board. Don't ask me the name of the winning team, though.
